Use the following commands to initialize your modem. All dialing
software has a place for init strings.
"ATM0" - will turn it off
If you already have a string, just add "M0" (M zero) after the existing
"AT"
Ln (Speaker Volume)
This command controls the modem speaker volume when the speaker is
turned on.
* L0,1 -- Selects low speaker volume.
* L2 -- Selects medium speaker volume.
* L3 -- Selects high speaker volume.
Mn (Speaker Control)
This command selects when the modem speaker will be on or off.
* M0 -- The speaker is always off.
* M1 -- Enables the speakerduring call establishment, but off once
the carrier is detected.
* M2 -- The speaker is always on.
* M3 -- Disables the speaker during the dialing period and receiving
carrier, but on during answering.

Subject: [at-l] modem dogs
I got two things for ya.
One...how come I can't figure out how to turn my modem volume off? I
mean, when the speakers are on and I'm listening to music (Papa Roach's
Last Resort right now) and I dial-up (yes, some of us still do that) I
hear the dial tone, dialing, and all that connecting. I've got the
'modem volume' set to off in the 'phone and modem' (or, whatever it's
called ) section. Any advice? (now, the real question is how do I turn
it off. Not 'how come I can't figure it out' as the first sentence would
indicate)
Secondly...go to these pages and go "Awwww..." and stuff like that.
