[at-l] Boston Globe: "Greylock development may at last berealized"

Didn't get the link in Mara'a note, but if you are referring to the Greylock
Glen, then yes, this is a pretty decent outcome. The area is at the bottom
of the east side of the mountain (pretty much invisible from the AT,
actually) and has been the victim of many ill-conceived attempts to "turn it
into something useful". There is a contingent of citizens in Adams who feel
that the mountain "owes the town something". Their view is that other towns
(North Adams and Lanesboro) have the ends of the access road, but all Adams
gets is the view. The summit is actually in the town of Adams. What those
people, and the ones before them don't realize is the value of providing
recreational access. No, it is not a big bucks cash cow bringing property
tax revenues, nor is it a "tourist mecca" drawing in thousands of visitors
like neighboring towns with their museums and theatres. It was, and still
could be a beautiful natural area, and I think the measured development now
in the works, with a large amount of public input may work better than all
the failed plans that relied on massive infrastructure and development. I
was quite pleased to see that the plan does not permit motorized trail
access, except for snowmobiles. The constant watchword with the Glen is
"stay tuned"
