[at-l] OT - Bees

I used to have a few hives, mostly for ensuring that the blossoms on my garden plants were properly fertilized. Summer fogs along the coast of Maine tend to hang on through noon many summer mornings, limiting the bees honey-producing abilities.

Then my neighbor killed them off by spraying powdered Sevin on his corn. Bees think the powder is pollen and gather it to feed the hive. great piles of dead bees crowded the entrances of my hives soon after his annual sprayings.

That neighbor has long since moved on. Every spring I think about getting another couple of hives, but spring is a busy time and I never get around to actually doing it. They are fun creatures to play around with, however. I highly recommend the hobby.
