I've sat here and wondered if this was a trick kwestion, but I'm gonna bite 
on this one.

No. You do not need a rooster.

Unless you want to raise chickies. On egg farms, you'll never see a rooster.

However, female is stimulated from the presence of a male, thus producing 
more eggs even though she can only produce one egg about every 12-14 hours.

Most fowl agree.
