          I wrote an e-mail to the New York Times describing the situation 
and telling them I thought it was unfair that the problem happening to the AT in 
Maine was going uncovered. I told them that it was only fair to level the 
playing field because of the unfair advantage the developers had over the 
volunteer-structured AT. Included was a brief overview and the MATLT web address. I 
then got a form answer telling me "Thanks for writing the Times. We read and 
appreciate every letter we receive etc". They never got back to me.


            A week later they did a story about the depressed Maine economy 
and the need to assist it.
