I got layed off in august of 02, and hiked March 1, 03.
March first I picked just to give me more time to hike,
I figured that any earlier I would get more snow & cold.

In 02 I was at the end of 20 years of programming & testing software,
now I am working sales in a sporting goods store. The job market 
where I am now sucks, retail wasn't my forst choice, and crap money 
wasn't either. Something to think about if using your brain & making money
is your priority. If not, go for it!! You will never regret the hike.
