Good question!  I have no idea if there are on-demand ozone kits suitable for
backpackers.  I do know of the steri-pen:

I personally prefer not to use it because I know my clumsy self.  A quartz bulb
(plain vanilla glass filters out some UV light) seems like something I could
break easily and quickly in the backcountry.  It sure gets decent reviews
though.
