They are so lightweight that they are inexpensive to ship and almost nothing to carry.  No need to need a backup.  But, to each his own.
 
 And, Greenbriar, are you in Asheville yet?

The problem is consistently finding Esbit along the Trail. If you can't, you need a backup, and alcohol is (IMHO) still the best backup.
