Just used a new REI pack, the large 65-liter
CRUISE UL pack. Pretty good equipment.
Carried about 29-lb. gear, plus a 3-liter
hydro in the pack and two 1-liter water
bottles.
I'll go back to it again . . . and I hope
again and again. Shall try to reduce the
basic pack load from the 29-lb. noted above,
to about 26/27- lbs.
Thjere were lots of attachments on the
outside of the bag, of which I used only a
few.

I was up in Canada backpacking this past week. Everywhere you looked you saw MEC clothing and gear. I asked a guy about it and he did compare it to the early REI stuff back when they were into gear not yuppie clothing

Ah..MEC.
Their house gear is very quality product. Better than say REI in my opinion. I think MEC is what REI used to be.
When the US to CAD dollar rate was favorable to the US, they were an awesome deal. . Such a good deal that MEC was not allowed to ship some name brand products (e.g. Marmot) to a US address!
Yep...MEC is good stuff.
Alas, the exchange rate is no longer killer for the US dollar. :( ($1 US to 1.06 CAD vs $1 to ~$1.25 say 5 yrs ago. Sigh)
