### Took my boyz to Ft. Ben's "sledding hill"
yesterday, to grab the last few runs from the slick
and melting sneaux pack. The three of us joined one
family of four, on a hill that held 1,000 just two
days ago. We had only brought the one device -- a sort
of glorified cafeteria tray with handles on the side
-- just big enough for your butt -- so I just climbed
to the top while the boys balanced themselves on the
slider. (You can do that with a 13 year old butt.)
While they tumbled and hooted down, I enjoyed the rosy
alpenglow splashing everywhere, the super-still air
and sounds carried from far away, and most especially,
the heavy, *redolent* scents of different thawing
*trees* -- "trees" because everything else was buried
under a foot or more of sneaux, and the soaked tree
bark was the only thing being bathed in the warmth of
40*F-50*F vespers. We all agreed it was a great day to
catch the last sled runs, and wondered at all who'd
stayed home.
