I'm just enjoying the memory of watching PapaRazzi's video this past Trail Days.
I had wandered early that morning in search of coffee, found some, sat down and
then Pudscrawler sat down beside me. An easy way into what was a terrific day in
Damascus. --RockDancer

Sunday evening I went into Marion to view and enjoy "An Appalachian Tale" by
Dave Hauver, PappaRazzi.? It was delightful, kind of inspiring, and definitely
something that I will want in my collection of AT stuff as soon as it is
available for purchase.

Along with his camera, Dave brought his sense of humor to the trail.? He also
brought along a serious appreciation for its milestones (the ones we mark in our
memories as we walk along) like Audie Murphy's memorial.? He showed the
camaraderie that develops among the hikers and how we rejoice at each other's
victories, not just our own.

What disturbed me though is not a criticism of Dave's DVD.? It is something I
realized that evening after coming home.? It featured only one woman, Phoenix,
primarily because she decided to leave the trail because she was not enjoying it
any more.? After leaving it in the Hiawassee area, she reappeared as a trail
angel, and a very good one.? She slacked these guys for lots of days as they
moved north.? She was definitely appreciated.

It occurred to me that not one of my videos or DVDs features the successful
progress of a woman on the trail other than the video of Maine Rose which was
filmed commercially years ago.? For the Long Trail there is Verna,
GrandmaSoule.? There isn't though a film that I am aware of that shows men AND
WOMEN as they progress the whole way?in the way that Lion King and PappaRazzi
show their treks.?

I would like to see a film about a woman's experience with her being the star
and its being autobiographical.? AND? I would like to see a film about a 65+
female hiker making it all the way.? Again, like PapaRazzi's, autobiographical,
just including who happened to be there.? Okay, I would even like to view the
biographical journey of a trail dog, including its interactions with other trail
dogs and trail people.? That would be a good one.

Perhaps it would be interesting to have a conglomerate of several women's
experiences on film, like if one read and compared the experience of several
different women in several different journals as they go through Mahoosuc Notch
and other special spots.

PapaRazzi's film is a chronicle of the hiker in his early 20s.? It's what each
of us picture ourselves doing as we prepare to go on trail.? It also features
some of the harsh realities that we soon encounter once we are there.? All
experiences he brings into it are common to us all.? I loved it.? I just want
more.

PS:? Why is it that I am sending this out even though someone is going to
thoroughly trounce me for it?
