there's this one road crossing I will always remember . . .
I don't have all the road crossings that the total thru's have under their
belt . . .
this was in NC somewhere before Nantahala nobo
I sat down on a log . . . out of water . . . resting before the next ascent
A humming bird came to inspect the red color on my hiking pole
I enjoyed watch the humming bird . . .
until . . .
I heard a rattle behind me . . .
I got up, scared away the humming bird, turned around, and saw a very large
rattler . . .
. . .
I threw stones at it so I could sit down again . . .  but it wouldn't leave
. . .
I found another place to sit down . . .
An SUV came up the road and I flagged it down and asked for water . . .
I got the best ice water I have ever drank
