[at-l] Can You Recommend the Most Beautiful Walk?

Is there a two to three mile section of the trail that you would recommend between Damascus and Tinker Cliffs that you believe could capture a first-time hiker's imagination so that he might become a hiker for life?  I am hoping to take a friend on such a hike about the second week of July (as in HOT).  

Would this be counterproductive because there ain't none such at that time of year in Virginia??

Those who know me realize that there is no way that my hiking speed could shame him.  He'll have plenty of time to take in all the surroundings, views, streams, foliage.  I want him to think of this as the next best recreation in the world (as in re-creation).  :-)\
