Typical "hiking" on the Long Trail is, for practical purposes, impossible 
right now. And It will be for quite a while. An experienced person on snow shoes 
should be able to cover less than half the distance per day that s/he could 
hike in the summer. I would not recommend trying to ski most of the Long Trail.
