Mine has - I've been using it for everything from "unexpected" day hikes to
weekenders, etc. since the summer of '03. Still looks new. It folds into
its own outer pocket and then has a waist belt so you can wear it. I know
they have smaller, lighter ones but the straps are thinner and I don't think
I would want to do a "real" day hike with them. Could be painful.
My most recent use of the pack was to get from Boston to Georgia over 1.5
weeks. I threw away my clothes as I used them up (only brought old stuff
with me) but the pack I sent home.
FWIW, this might be appropriate if you're looking for better utility and
willing to go with a bit more weight but not a lot. It's not going to be
just 2 oz.
