Perhaps there are some who hike who take Psychiatric medication and  have 
expressed a desire to stop taking it when on the Trail.  As  pointnorther stated 
it is possible to stop medication but it should be done  under supervision of 
the prescribing doctor or in a controlled atmosphere  (hospital, out-patient 
setting, in a friends home, or at home with parental  supervision.  It can be 
dangerous to stop abruptly even if the discomfort  of side effect is felt by 
the patient.  
 
But, this is a topic that is relevant to a minority of the hikers on this  
list.  It is a personal issue that needs discussion with personal  physician(s) 
and not something the general public can do anything about.
