What was it Groucho said? "Please accept my resignation. I don't care to belong to any club that will have me as a member."

  No, wait, that wasn't it.

It was "One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got into my pajamas I'll never know."

Well, from the 'business' side of it, it all seems too 'corporate' anymore. Which I could probably tolerate/accept if there wasn't a 'personal' side of it (for me). Without going into detail, I feel that I've been treated poorly (one way or another) by no less than three people who are, or have been, in the employ of the organization. Having a bad taste in one's mouth makes it more difficult to write a check, I've found.

Oh right, now I remember. Employees come and go, but the trail will always need your support. I think it's OK to let memberships laspe from time to time, but if you continue to hike the trail it's probably best to set your personal aside differences and donate. maybe you can direct it towards a maintainer club.
