unexpectedly on Sept. 3, 2007, at MaineGeneral Medical Center after a
brief illness.
He was born in Waterville on June 30, 1938, the first son of Robert
Buck and Doris (Willette) Jones. Deane graduated from Waterville High
School in the class of 1956, and later from the University of Maine at
Orono. He served in the Air Force and Maine Air National Guard from
1961 to 1967 and achieved the rank of Captain. He was employed by J.S.
McCarthy Printers in Augusta until his retirement in 2000.

District 83, representing Manchester, Fayette, Belgrade, Mount Vernon,
and Vienna. He served the community of Mount Vernon as selectman for
many years. In 2000, he accomplished a personal quest: to hike the
Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. In his retirement, he enjoyed
traveling with his wife Pat, and had recently returned from a trip to
China and Tibet. His love for his family was unwavering, and he was an
exceptional husband and father.

Bruce Jones of Mount Olive, N.C., and Howard Jones of Oakland; two
sons, Patrick Bruce Jones of Chicago and Michael Deane Jones of
