Subject: [at-l] The first step is admitting you have a problem
I was reading a post today at The Simple Dollar about how the guy has
an addiction to books, so he's cutting himself off for a year. No
buying new. He'll read the ones he already has piling up on the
"unread books" shelf. Then he challenged the readers to do something
similar.
I think I have an ultralight gear problem.
I have enough backpacks, sleeping bags, air mattresses, hammocks,
tents, stoves, pots, sporks, headlamps, raincoats, hats, long
underwear, synthetic shorts, trail shoes, stuff sacks, and gaiters to
outfit a party of five for a nice trip. So I'm cutting myself off.
Especially during the winter, my biggest buying season, I'm not buying
anything. (With the exception of consumables like stove fuel and
water treatment stuff, and maps if I hike somewhere new.)
And I think a few of my items are going to start showing up on the
White Blaze for sale forum. Seriously, nobody needs this many
titanium pots. I have a room dedicated to camping gear, and it
doesn't all fit in there.
