[at-l] Metatarsal soreness

Well, I've got my Achilles tendons rehabbed enough that my longer walks are up to 7 miles, with 3-milers and rest days in between. I've got prescription orthotic inserts in my shoes. Now my metatarsals (ball of foot) are getting sore. Anyone have any experience fixing this? No swelling or point tenderness suggesting (shudder) stress fracture. I'm thinking a ball-of-foot cushion in shoes; have to ask the foot doc if this will screw up the action of the orthotics.

MacGyver, who "should" be able to rig a remedy with duct tape or something....
