at 3.5 lbs, the prototype won't make it on to the knee or knees of most long
distance hikers, but it's just the prototype they're writing about now;
doubtlessly engineers will figure out how to reduce the weight . . . but if
you've always wanted something other than solar power to recharge batteries,
this may do the trick for some hikers:
