It is possible to do this in Georgia at the beginning of the Appalachian  
Trail if one is willing to sacrifice some comfort and get a feel of the Hiking  
crowd.
 
The Hikers Hostel in Dahlonega, Georgia will take hikers to the trailhead  on 
Forest Road #42 and then pick them up at various points on the trail as the  
trail snakes over #42 at Gaps along the way.  They charge a nominal amount  
(much less than a B n B but they do give a good breakfast.  Dinners are  usually 
in town at each person's own expense.  
 
When I stayed at this place there were several who slack packed and just  
carried their lunch and some emergency stuff from Gap to Gap and made contact  
with the Hikers Hostel via Cell Phone or pre-arranged pickup.
 
Josh and Leigh are through-hikers and know how to make hikers feel  
comfortable,
