for those of you with MIT diplomas, please don't read this post because my lack of reverence for the "theory of precision measurement" may piss you off...
i am posting "post number one" again because it came out with ?????? everywhere, so i want to see if this fixes that.  for those of you that are round-to-one-decimal-challanged, i have included the rounding in (  ).  and, just to really agitate some of you, i've included the number of paces from location to location in [  ].  AND, if you are using the rounded mileages, then i have included the number of paces in {  }...
<rant>
and to further point out the absurdedy of rounding, look at the distance from "SPRINGER MOUNTAIN SHELTER" to the "southern terminus BMT".  if you round the numbers, they are in the same place {zero paces apart}, when in actuality they are nearly a tenth-of-a-mile apart (198 paces).  but, who really gives a ding-dong how the data is presented as long as it is actually close to the proper mileages.  the shame is that the DATABOOK presents incorrect mileage data.  that has nothing to do with the author of the DATABOOK -  he just pukes out the information that he is given - he really has no clue whether the data is accurate or not.  i have known for years that the georgia data was wrong, because i have hiked this section repeatedly, and because i saw relo after relo with no change in the DATABOOK mileages.  and who decided that only some of the water sources, and some of the tentsites, would be presented in the DATABOOK?.  why not all of the water
 sources and all of the tentsites?  and why not list where there are privies?  women want to know this!  older-folk (me) want to know this!  and why not let us know when we can expect a good viewpoint?  or where the more difficult trail is?  who has decided that we only get SOME of the information?  i say, overload us with information and let us decide what we want to use.  there outght to an amendment to the constitution...
