    Peoples

    Patricia A. Peoples, 64, of Hampton, passed away on Friday, July 25,
2008, at Johnson City Medical Center.

    A native of Worcester, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Paul H.
and Lillian Gully.

    Mrs. Peoples was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in
Elizabethton. She was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, earning
a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She furthered her education at
Golden Gate College in Massachusetts with a Master's Degree in Education and
at the University of Dayton graduating with a Juris Doctorate.

    Mrs. Peoples was one of the first one hundred women admitted to the Bar
in the State of Vermont. During her career she worked as a price economist
for the United States Department of Labor; a senior citizen's advocate for
the State of Vermont; a maritime lawyer for the Panama Canal Commission;
consulate for the Veteran's Administration in Vermont and as a National
Handicap Riding Association Instructor for Small Miracles Therapeutic
Horseback Riding in Kingsport, Tenn.

    Pat had a lifelong interest in horseback riding, travel and reading
mystery novels.

    Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Bob Peoples, of the home; a
son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Hyung Joo Kim-Peoples, Boulder, Colo.; a
daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Jonathan Martin, Middlebury, Vt.; two
grandsons, Jacob and Jordan Martin; a brother and sister-in-law, Paul H. and
Judy Gully, Worcester, Mass.; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Ellingwood,
Williamstown, Mass.

    The funeral mass for Mrs. Peoples will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday,
July 29, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Elizabethton with Rev. Dennis
Kress officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain Home National
Cemetery. Active pallbearers and honor guard will be the Knights of
Columbus. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.
Tuesday, prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to
St. Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or
to the Carter County Imagination Library c/o Kathy Campbell, Northeast
Community Credit Union, 980 Jason Witten Way, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
