The article states that AT hikers would like to see the trail re-routed  
around the mountain.  I wonder if the top of the mountain doesn't offer  some 
worthwhile views.  those who have hiked this section would know.   The excuse that 
the government loses on the rental deal is easily settled:   Raise the rents? 
 And if the land is rented aren't the renters liable for  the upkeep?  Some 
of the lawyers among ALDHA or ATC might have some  insight.
 
In the summer there is the Alpine Slide that is very enjoyable.  An  easy 
ride down and a scenic ride up.
