I did my thru last year with the Rainbow. I love my tent and had no problems with it. I especially like the fact that it can be free standing.

Starting next week, I will have more info on "Tarptents". My outfitter in
Greenville,
SC (Appalachian Outfitters) will be selling them. I believe only 1 other
"outfitter"
(in Oregon) carries them in an actual store front.
The Contrail was my choice, based on the web site data.

I really like my Henry Shires Tarptent Contrail 1, 24 oz with floor. It was
excellent in its simplicity on the CDT last year, there's practically
nothing to break and only 4 stakes. I've heard of a problem with the Tarptent
Rainbow in high winds. I used a Tarptent Virga and a Six Moon Designs (SMD)
Europa II for the PCT in '04, and liked the Tarptent better. Lots of Henry's
Tarptents on the PCT that year. The new SMD tents sound like an improvement
over the older ones, lots of folks seem to be trying them.
