After years of hiking in Florida, I FINALLY saw a bear from the trail.? I'd seen several bears from the car, particularly in the Ocala NF, but never from the trail.? Saturday?evening about 7:00 p.m.?Jon Phipps & I were hiking in the Wekiva Reserve and heard a lot of rustling in the palmettos near the trail.? The rustling was moving around; we thought it was an armadillo.? All of a sudden, I saw a bear cub in a little clearing about 20 yards off the trail.? The cub bounded across the open spot and then crashed through the woods.? The rustling continued nearer the trail, but we never saw Momma bear or sibling bear.

Cross that one off the bucket list.
