Forest Fire Closes Section in Craig County, VA

A section of the Appalachian Trail in Craig County was closed yesterday because of a forest fire. Cindy Schiffer, a U.S. Forest Service district ranger, said the fire did not pose a risk to populated areas or private structures. 
The fire was burning on Sinking Creek Mountain in Craig County, about 12 miles northeast of Blacksburg. More than 30 firefighters were trying to contain the fire, which was reported early Sunday. 
Schiffer said the cause of the blaze is not known.
