My dad has this very same surgery this past summer with 5 bypasses.
I wasn't sure when he first went home how much he would recover.
He does more now than before the surgery. Treadmill. Walk at the park.
Keep up the faith. I promise...after the initial hump...all the extra pumping...you can't imagine how much better it will be.

Do you know of Tom Thwaites, PA guidebook author and trail builder/maintainer? He hiked half the AT, then went home because of heart problems. He had bypass surgery and two years later (I think) he finished the AT. He continued to hike and build and maintain trails for the next several years. As far as I know, he is still doing it - some 15+ years later. He was younger than you when he had his surgery, but it was successful. He has a pacemaker which limits his hiking, but he does still hike.
