The Florida Trail has a spur trail that goes to the Alabama line.? Those who do the ECT have a route that includes a good bit of south Alabama road walk.? I'll try to get the e-mail addy for Rick Gushe, who's been a driving force behind getting a thru trail into Alabama.

I've done most of the AL section, and it's typical woods walk, pretty well marked, and sparsely traveled.? The section north of I-20 takes you past several watershed lakes built in the sixties.? In dry times, water can be scarce on the primary ridge near Cheaha State Park, but the park store (limited resupply), motel and restaurant are a five minute walk uphill from the scenic highway (State 281) road crossing.? As mentioned, the Pinhoti Trail Alliance website is the best online resource, and don't miss the link to Parkay's excellent maps.? The shelters are nice, mostly traditional six man size, and several have been built this decade.? I'm doing a 30 mile stretch north of I-20 next week that will take me past three shelters, one of which was built in 2006.? I'll report back on their condition, and the trip in general.

Take Care,

Tim
