Didn't Pittsburgh organize a "hands across the Trail" event several
years ago? Was it a one day event? Or was it a weekend? I have a
vague memory of emails and postings on this list to set up the
exercise.

>Mike Dickerman talks about a new peakbagging list for the northeast,

>AT in a Day
>"How's this for an ambitious undertaking? The Dartmouth Outing Club,
>in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of its creation, is
>organizing a one-day assault on the revered Appalachian Trail and is
>hoping that current and past members of the club can hike the entire
>length of the 2,160-mile path in a single day (Oct. 10, 2009).
>
>According to DOC's website, "the trail will be divided up into
>sections, which will be hiked by individual parties along the length
>of the trail." Each party will have a banner to photograph so that a
>digital photo essay can be created by DOC. If successful, it will be
>the first time any single outing club has hiked the entire AT in a
>single day.
>
>Beginning April 10, a web application for "AT in a Day" will become
>available, linked from the DOC centennial website. This web
>application will show a full AT map, with various markers on the
>trail. Hikers can sign-up for a section, get information on that
>part of trail, leave contact information, and write comments. DOC
>will also be contacting alumni groups along the AT to claim, divide
>and hike a large section of trail in their area..."
