[at-l] How to deal with Hiker Crankiness during winter season?

I'm wishing that we had a bunch of family showing up. The kids aren't coming
(too far away/not enough time off from work), no grandkids anyway. My
father-in-law died in August and my Alzheimer afflicted mother-in-law phones
daily either looking for Charlie or to tell us he died. She forgets from one
day to the next that we were all there. Maybe we'll get a blizzard and I can
go snowshoeing.
