[at-l] Spot On

The Spot seems of quite limited value to me. It can periodically
report your position, and assure the folks at home that you are okay.
Nice, I suppose, but really this does nothing for the person 'out
there' who has to carry the thing and feed it batteries.

In an emergency you can send a 911 signal, along with your current
position. That's nice, though it would be a lot more useful if you
could actually communicate and explain the nature of your emergency.

And the "I need help" function, which notifies a pre-designated person
or persons when you push the button, seems particularly useless to me,
since you are communicating that it is not an emergency but that you
need assistance of some sort. Well, what sort of assistance? What is
the person at home supposed to do now? Without the ability to
communicate and tell them what your non-emergency is and what kind of
assistance you need, of what use is this feature, other than to worry
the folks back home?
