This past weekend when I went out for my first overnighter in years I didn't 
even bother to take a headlamp.  Instead I recently had bought a windup 
light at one of the local discount stores.  I use it around the house and 
use it when I camp in the backyard.  Now I'm using it on the trail as well. 
I don't have to worry about batteries running dead on me.  If I could figure 
out a way to mount it on either the head or while it's being used in the 
house.
