A big story iun NH this weekend tells of a Canadian couple who set
off to hike the Presidential Ridge from Crawford Notch to Pinkham
Notch ( along the AT) last Wednesday. Apparently they ran into bad
weather and found emergency shelter (The Dungeon or The Perch) for
two days before they ran out of fuel from melting snow and decided
to move on. Because the blazes and trail signs where buried deep in
the accumulated snow they had now way of finding the correct path.
They decided to head down into a ravine to get out of the stormy
weather. They were reported missing on Saturday morning. Sunday a
rescue mission was sent out to find them. And it was successful.
The young couple was in good health and may have found their way out
eventually but were greatful for the rescue team. No fines or
charges are going to me made since they appeared to be well prepared
for their hike with tent, winter boots, snowshoes, etc.
