[at-l] packing tasty meals for first nite outta town

I've never been known to count ounces, really. Though, as I get older 
and the body hurts more after less, I try to not carry weight I don't 
have to. But, I don't like to give up some comforts and luxuries.  Like 
the 19 ounce can of Progresso Beef Stew I carried to Upper Goose Pond 
last February. I carried it with the intention of eating it that night 
on the porch of the cabin. But, that sandwich I'd eaten at the deli 
where I bought the stew had me full for the night. (A night it got into 
the single digits...which made it a clear, beautiful sunrise the next 
morning.) So, I carried that pound-plus can of glorious meaty-nectar 
with me all day long...to a cold, damp, fogged-in South Wilcox Mt. 
Shelter. Mmmmm....probably the second-best meal I've ever had on the 
trail.  (This was the night that I was lying in my sleeping bag (after 
eating) and thinking "This is a pretty dumpy shelter" only to find out 
when I went to the privy the next morning that there is a brand-spanking 
new shelter about 75 yards from the old one.  (That's how thick the fog 
was.)   Mmmmm.....hamburger rocks.
