I really slept well last night. Amazing what one day away from work does for the stress level. Sometime today Baltimore Jack showed up to help set up the ALDHA table. I did not see him, but then again I did not go looking for him. I attended three workshops today. The first one was Jewels of the Northern Forest and talked about the birds along the trail. There was a lively discussion about habitat preservation which included logging. The presentation was presented by a speaker from the Vermont Audubon Society. I don't think that he was on the ATC wavelength.

The second morning talk was on the International Appalachian Trail. Entirely fascinating. It know extends into the Maritime Provinces and New Foundland. It will soon be extended to the British Isles. I highly recommend everyone to look at their web page (I don't have the web address in front of me, you will have to use that googling thingy).

Speaking of the ATC, the board of directors are keeping a very low profile and the whole ATC2009 is really hiker driven. I did not see anyone who was interest in conservation. As part of my protest against the ATC I joined the Green Mountain Club (Killington Section). The business meeting Monday is going to be interesting. I am not too shy about speaking up. What the hell can I lose, are they going to kick me out of an organization that I don't belong to?

After lunch I attend a gourmet cooking class (for trail food). Some of it was excellent. Gave me some ideas about some meals on the trail. Tomorrow morning my first AT hike. Gotta rest so I can go hiking tomorrow.

Cheers,

Bob Grey Owl Dudley
