Michael called today to say he'd found a great deal on a hotel just a mile off the beach for when we go down in February for his mobilization ceremony. I've never been down to the Gulf and so a stop at the beach for a bit (no matter how cold!) is a must do!

Anyone have any recommended spots to go see? Know of any great little restaurants, music spots, gotta see thangs we should consider?

Of course there are the casinos (I've never even seen the inside of one), but they aren't a huge draw for either one of us. Money being just a bit too precious and all that. Not saying we won't go in and try our hand at something though just to say I've done it.

I'd love to get to some of the historical sites like Beauvoir the Jefferson Davis Home, the lighthouse, lighthouse park (Gulfport), the old cemetery, friendship oak tree, as well as the many Vietnam & WWII Memorials.

We definitely are planning at least a couple of days for New Orleans alone. I know it will not be NEARLY enough time down there... but.. I still want to get to the National WWII Museum, historical homes (imagining myself on the veranda sippin Mint Julips! lol), French Quarter... and, and...

Come on folks... so much to see and do down there... help us whittle it down a mite. We'll only have a total of 5 days and then it's back to base for the ceremony....and goodbyes for a year. So, if your loved one was going away for a year... what spots would you go see?
