I had a pair of those back in the late 1960's - the chains wore great 
and the rubber straps were replaced many times by strips of innertubing 
(bike tire tubes work best for this).  Mine had probably 1,500 miles on 
them when they disappeared with my ex.....  I have no doubt they would 
still be usable (albeit heavy) today.

If anyone is interested in a homemade version of this: use tire tubes to 
make the framework of a fisherman's type sandal and the chain sold to 
made children's swings.  Attach by threading the tubing thru the chain 
'sole'.  Many friends used these back before there were outfitters and 
yak-trax.  We always carried a spare piece of innertubing, but in a 
pinch, duct tape will suffice for backwoods failures (roll length of 
duct tape into a tube and use like innertubing)
