Huh! Are you talking about me?

Well, if not, this same thing has happened to me twice in 12 years of AT hiking, both times in cold weather when the mice are looking for someplace warm and they can feel the warmth they want through the tent body. One was at Walnut Mtn shelter just a few miles from Hot Springs, NC, the other event happened as I neared Katahdin in October of '97. Both times I woke up in the dark with something on my chest, freaked when I turned on the light and then chased it around the tent because the darn things can't find the hole they made to get in!

During this year's hike I awoke one cold morning and found a rather large snake snuggled up to me on the outside of the tent fabric, just at the door. It looked so happy to have a little warm micro-climate going for it that I didn't shoosh it away. Sometime during breakfast it slowly moved off on its own.

>A mouse chewed it's way into my friend's tent and in the enclosed environment couldn't get out fast enough when my >friend woke up and went after it with his boot. LOL Keep in mind, that only happened once, to one hiker, during my >entire thruhike.
