Probably the best place to avoid melting in July would be to start at 
Katahdin and head north from there.  It's all downhill to the coast, and the 
nice ocean breeze should help to keep you cool as well.  LOL!!!

Sorry I couldn't resist.

On the more serious note, given how warm is has been this spring, hopefully 
summer will cool down some or we will be seeing highs regularly 90-100 
degree in western NH.  Heck the temps around here have already been 
averaging what they wouldn't normally average until late June and sometimes 
even later than that.  Temps have been WAY above normal this spring.
