As some of you know, Ironmaster’s Hostel at Pine Grove Furnace State Park has been home to the
Mother Ruck for many years. Long enough that it’s become known as the PA Ruck. But Ironmaster’s
is unavailable this year because there’s no kitchen and the campground is closed.

So – there’s been some confusion about where it should be held – or IF it should be held at all.
The fog has now cleared and the Ruck WILL happen – January 28 & 29, 2011 at Bears Den Hostel
in Virginia.

As usual, if you’re going to be there, you’ll need to call and make reservations – for either the hostel
or the campground. The hostel contact information is:

Bears Den Trail Center
18393 Blue Ridge Mountain Rd.
Bluemont, VA. 20135
(540)554-8708
www.bearsdencenter.org

Scott and Marie Wheaton/Red Wing & Hopeful are the Resident Hosts at Bears Den

If you want to stay in the hostel the following information applies:

Accommodations: As guests you have access to the common living room, dining room
and kitchen. All linens for sleeping and showers are provided. Each bed includes a fitted
sheet, pillow, and pillow case. Sleeping bags are welcome, but top sheets and blankets
are also available. All cookware and tableware is provided. The store sells souvenirs and
some food such as snacks, sodas, frozen pizza and Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream. As a traditional
hostel, we ask that you please make sure that the lodge is clean before you leave.

Pricing: $15.00 plus tax per person per night (special Ruck/Hiker rate)

If you stay in the campground the price is $5.00 plus tax per person per night (special Ruck/Hiker rate)

There’s also a small cabin some distance from the hostel @ $60 plus tax per person per night.

Either way, check in is on Friday afternoon and check out is on Sunday morning.

One thing to note VERY carefully is that this is an ALCOHOL-FREE FACILITY. No exceptions.
If you want/need it, there’s a bar down the road. Use it.

Meals are still pot-luck.

Marsha is still the kitchen-boss. Don’t mess with her if you want to eat.

At this time there is no “schedule”. That will come later.

If you have questions, you know where to find me. Or call the hostel.

Walk softly,
Jim
