[at-l] Cumberland Island

Well, yesterday afternoon I ended up calling Cumberland Island National Seashore. Lady said that at that point they were not anticipating any evacuations of the island. She said that if it comes to that, they send rangers over who track down everyone on the island and get them to the boat to return to the mainland.
Given that seas here may be 9-12 feet, I'm wondering at what point the Cumberland Island boat can't run. He'll manage, I'm sure.
However, Jon can be picky about what he'll eat. Should be interesting if he gets stranded and has to resort to "possom on a halfshell" (aka armadillo).

I wonder if they evacuated the island: I drove down to Statesboro from
acon, and across to Mt. Vernon, today. My route to Statesboro took me
own I-16. They'd closed the interstate southbound and it appeared
hey were preparing it as an evacuation route this morning. I tho't it
as stooopid to close I-16 Sobok in Georgia when all the radio
redictions were referring to Carolina Outer Banks as the potential
andfall . . . . but what do I know?

So, because of Hurricane Earl they're evacuating Okracoke Island, NC. And
sweetie Jon is off on Cumberland Island doing a 4-5 day hike. Seas here in
central Florida are supposed to be 9-11 feet today and tomorrow. Wonder if
Jon will be able to get off Cumberland? Will the boat still run? Hope he
has some extra rations!
And his birthday is Friday. Is marrooned without food a good way to spend
your birthday? For the record, he did 20 years Army Special Forces (green
beret), so I know he'll manage, but it just doesn't seem like all that much
fun to me.
