  12 years ago today was the worst day I ever had on the 
Trail...ANY trail!!   Hiked from Garfield to N. Woodstock... 
lost Stoat AND Pokey in the process. Sleet, rain, wind, 
mud...cold... classic hypothermia conditions. Miserable day 
with zero views from Lafayette, or anywhere else. Lived to 
tell about it...and, spend the night in a smoke-filled room 
at Cascades
