[at-l] Car for camping

Can't recommend better than trying a "lie down" in the back of a couple then.
I assume from your "new" car statement you're looking at a second hand car.
Our car market is a bit different from yours so you need to make your own choices but I am a huge fan of Subarus of all vintages.
My go to work and hiking car is a 88 Subaru (L series here I think a Leone there) that I bought for $900 3 years ago.
It is reliable if a little rough, 4WD and when I park it in the bush is clearly not worth stealing.
It's not the Ritz but me and my pack fit fine.
Remember when sleeping in a car that it can get stuffy. Even on cold nights an hour of sunshine before you wake can make it a greenhouse.
Dogs (and people) can die in locked cars!
I recommend you make a couple of no-see-um or similar panels an inch or two wide to keep the bugs out of a slightly open window or two.
