FBI IDs body found near Appalachian Trail in Amherst County

The FBI says it appears the Indiana man had been hiking the trail and the agency is telling other hikers to use caution.

RICHMOND -- The body of a hiker found near the Appalachian Trail in central Virginia has been identified as an Indiana resident.

The body was found by hikers on Aug. 12 in northwest Amherst County.

The FBI in Richmond said Friday the victim has been identified as Scott Lilly of South Bend, Ind. The agency says the death is listed as suspicious, although no cause of death was released.

The FBI says it appears Lilly had been hiking the trail and the agency is telling other hikers to use caution.

The FBI is looking for witnesses to help in the investigation.
