[at-l] Fontana PO may close

Leaders in a tiny mountain town say their post office is needed and they want to keep it off the chopping block. The Fontana Dam facility is on the list of post offices targeted for possible closure by the Postal Service. Residents say without the post office, they'd have to drive more than 20 miles. Town leaders say it’s also important to hikers on the Appalachian Trail who use it to send and receive supplies. They all agree it's a key to communication in an area with little cell or internet service. Postal Service representatives will meet with Fontana Dam residents September 1st at 7 p-m. They’ll consider all comments for two months before making any final decisions.
