"Sometime in 1935, the Mountain Club of Maryland affixed the bronze 
marker to a boulder marking what was then the midway point in the 
2,179-mile Appalachian Trail. Since then, the center point has been 
relocated further south to the vicinity of the Pine Grove Furnace State 
Park, which is now the home of the trail museum."
