This is from September 1, at 2:40 pm on this website. I have to say, just 3
weeks after breaking my foot in the woods, that I'm so glad I didn't have to
initiate this kind of rescue. Yeah, it sucked walking injured for a mile
but, knowing the trails in the Whites, I wouldn't want to walk out from
where she broke her ankle. --RD
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire Fish and Game officials say a hiker is
being treated for a fractured ankle after being rescued from the Appalachian
Trail in Gorham.
A 20-member rescue team climbed five miles up the Carter Moriah trail after
getting a report that a woman hiking alone was injured.
They carried 66-year-old Ruth Dobsevage

over steep terrain before reaching the trail head at 11 p.m. Wednesday and
transporting her to a Berlin hospital
WMWV radio reports that Dobsevage is hiking the Appalachian Trail in
sections and was on a 10-day hike when she fractured her ankle.
The rescue team was made up of Fish and Game conservations officers and
members of the Appalachian Club
