[at-l] Therma rest repair

Hi All
 
I have a tapered Therma rest.( not NeoAir) It has  a textured surface and 
it has a small cut. I tried to patch it with a rubber  tube patch (for bicyle 
tire tubes) and that didn't work. The nearest place  to buy the 
manufacturers repair kit is 75 or more miles  away.
 
Can anyone recommend a patch kit available at the  local hardware store 
that would work?
